A DASH CAM INSTALL

DASHCAM FITTING INFORMATION

You will need all the necessary cables and mounts, including a power cable or hardwire kit and front to rear cable if a rear camera is being fitted. Failure to provide all of the equipment may result in the job being cancelled and a cancellation fee applied.

If you don’t have a dash cam hardwire kit, we can supply an adaptor, to convert the cigarette lighter style plug on the power cable into cable which can be used for a hardwire install.

If your dashcam has a parking mode feature, this might not work unless you have the correct, specific hardwire kit for your dash cam. Please check with the dash cam manufacturer if unsure.

Our experienced installers will be happy to fit your own dash cams that you bought elsewhere, but please be aware that some equipment might not be to UK spec and/or could cause interference to your DAB radio, resulting in loss of signal in some areas. Our installers will try to reduce or remove this interference, but we cannot guarantee results or be responsible for the loss of signal.

PLEASE NOTE: when deinstalling dash cams which weren't originally fitted by Cygnal, we cannot be held responsible for any damage caused due to incorrect materials used during the camera installation (i.e. bonding glue, aged adhesive pads or faulty wiring)

  • How long does the installation take?
To install a front only dashcam, it varies with the car model. Without unforseen issues, a front dashcam can take between 30 minutes to over an hour. A front and rear camera can take up to 2 hours, but generally about 90 minutes. Of course if there is accessories involved, such as a parking mode battery, installation time will be longer.

  • How much is a dash cam?
Dash cams vary in price, based on the quality and the features you need. We have some entry level dash cams from around £99 plus installation. Some of the more advanced dash cams can set you back upwards of £400 to £500. There is definitely a dash cam that suits all budgets and needs. This is very much dependent on what you need it for. If you're looking for an advanced dash cam, we like the Thinkware U3000 or BlackVue - DR970X. Whereas if you are on a budget, any of our Road Angel dash cams tend to be good value for money.

  • Do dash cams record all the time?

  • Should I buy front and rear or just front?
In the early days of dashcams most models were just front and that was preferred by customers. However, now that most drivers are well aware of the benefits of the dashcam, most dashcams now are installed as front and rear. There is often as much danger behind you as in front. The rear camera can add to the cost of your dashcam due to the camera itself and the more lengthy installation.
